What's Google up to these days? Well.. it seems they are working up a partnership with NASA. In addition, they are involving themselves in a project spearheaded by MIT aimed at putting laptops in the hands of kids throughout the world.
These crank-powered laptops are a great idea for third world countries, but what about the fact that internet access in many of these countries is more than the typical family earns in a week?
OK.. Go back to their involvement with NASA. Of what purpose could NASA be to Google? I can think of only one reason... satellites.
Look for Google, in the near future, to announce a development program to beam internet info around the globe via satellite. I'm not sure if they are planning to outfit computers with a transmitter to relay info two-way. But, in their eyes, I'm sure they would be content to provide simple one way service, similar to Sirius satellite radio, and subject kids everywhere to Google ads and the like..
I'm sure two way transmission would be a distinct possibility, so they can perform their obligatory google searches and access their google mail... and this is just the tip of the iceberg..
Look for some really big stuff in the next several months..
